Look Out For: simulated thrill elements, motion sickness, brief peril, loud noises, and a couple of jump scares
Opening on October 1, 2021, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a whimsical trackless ride through a restaurant in Paris. But how scary is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure? Let’s take a look at the ratings:
1. Ride Length
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure has a ride duration of 4 minutes and 40 seconds.
2. Height Requirement and Warnings
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure has no height requirement, making it a great choice for younger kids that might be ready for a little thrill. There are also no safety warnings – though Disney does mention that those prone to motion sickness may want to skip out on this ride.
3. Ride Vehicles and Restraints
The Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ride vehicles consist of individual trackless cars (shaped like mice) seating approximately 6 passengers in 2 rows of 3. There is no lap bar but each row has a small rail in front of the seats that guests can hold onto if so desired.
4. How Does Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Work?
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure works by using wireless navigation and frequencies to glide smoothly over the floor on a predetermined route. It’s one of 3 “trackless” rides in the parks – the other 2 being Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. In addition, the cars tilt, “bounce,” and spin (like mice) to give you the illusion of scampering through a Parisian kitchen. While the floor-to-ceiling screens provide most of the ride’s setting, there are some cool practical effects and show scenes along the way as well.
5. Is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Scary?
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is not intentionally scary, but may be a bit frightening to some riders. While certainly labeled as a family-friendly attraction, there are some brief scenes of peril, loud noises, 4D effects (like spraying water), and some simulated thrill elements that may feel intense to some. Overall, the ride has a very fun and whimsical tone, but those prone to sensory sensitivity will find that this one is not the gentlest.
Specifically, riders will find themselves “falling” from a great height, scampering through a chaotic kitchen – dodging huge feet and veggies, being swatted with a mop, having to escape from under a flaming oven, and finally evading a manic Chef Skinner wielding a meat-cleaver. This last chase in particular involves a lot of shouting, chaos, and even a handful of jump scares as the chef lunges and grasps for you under furniture.
6. How High is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure?
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure does not technically involve heights, though there are some scenes that simulate being up high – and falling – from a rat’s point of view. One scene in particular involves being up on a glass roof, looking “down” at the kitchen (for about 20 seconds) before a panel gives way and you find yourself dangling and then falling quickly to the floor.
7. How Fast is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure?
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is not technically very fast, but does simulate some significant speed. The ride is very action-packed – throwing you from one perilous situation to another – but most of the action takes place on screen. While the cars don’t actually get up to high speeds, they do tilt, “bounce,” and spin – creating an immersive experience for everyone.
8. Does Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Have Drops?
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure does not technically have drops, but does simulate falling from a high place. In one particular scene, your car will fall from a glass roof to the floor. This is all simulated on a large screen, but your car does tilt forwards to make that sensation feel very convincing. While many will find this sequence very tame, I certainly got that stomach-in-throat feeling, even though it was simulated.
There are other thrilling moments involving being “shot” backwards by a popping champagne bottle, spinning rapidly, and evading huge, human-sized threats throughout the ride.
9. Does Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Cause Motion Sickness?
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will cause motion sickness to many riders. As primarily a 4D experience involving screens and rushing visuals, this attraction has a high potential of causing nausea with its spinning, tilting, and chaotic movements alongside a massive screen.
10. Is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Claustrophobic?
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure should not be claustrophobic to most riders. With its quick pacing, fairly average ride duration, and lack of any restraints, this attraction might be a good fit for the claustrophobic among us. The queue, however, involves many tight, windowless hallways and a decidedly “underground” feel, which may pose a problem for some riders. If this is the case for you, I’d recommend getting a lightning lane for this one, so that you can bypass most of the queue and still enjoy the ride.
11. Are There Animatronics on Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure?
There are no animatronics on Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Queue Walkthrough
The queue entrance is located in the back of the France Pavilion in EPCOT. The line takes you through a series of tight, windowless hallways before opening up briefly to a Parisian rooftop – where you’ll see Gusteau’s neon sign above you. You’ll continue on through some more similar hallways before finally arriving on the loading platform.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Ride Walkthrough
After boarding the ride vehicle, it will lightly spin and glide through the rooftops until you find Remy and Gusteau above a glass roof. After musing about “what to prepare,” you and Remy will teeter and fall through the roof as a panel gives way. Finding yourself suddenly in the kitchen, you’ll scamper frantically – dodging massive feet and falling items – before ducking into cold storage.
Gliding slowly through this very cool practical set, you’ll quickly find yourself back in the kitchen, being swatted out of sight by a mop-wielding Linguini. However, you suddenly find yourself underneath an oven – flaming to life above you – and you scamper under a trolley, which then takes you into the dining room.
It’s here that you’re spotted by Chef Skinner and he lunges for you, chasing you frantically as you skitter through the walls. As I mentioned before, there are a few “jump scares” as he almost catches you at several points. However, you make it to safety and get to take in the lovely sight of the kitchen working with your fellow mice.
You’ll slide right into the bustling kitchen before being blown backwards by a popping champagne bottle – sending you up into the rat dining room where our beloved characters bid you adieu. With that, you’ll find yourself right back at the loading station.
That’s it! Remember, everyone’s riding experience is a little bit different and only you can decide whether to hop on that ride vehicle or not. I just hope this guide helps you be prepared and enjoy every second of your Disney experience!
