Look Out For: some scary story elements and characters as well as smoke effects, loud beastly roars, choreographed fighting, and a stage stabbing

Opening on November 22, 1991, Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage is an outdoor theatrical production telling the classic tale as old as time. But how scary is Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage? Let’s take a look at the stats:

beauty and the beast live

1. Ride Length

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage has a duration of approximately 25 minutes. As a stage show with live actors and moving set pieces, it can of course, be a bit longer or shorter by a few minutes.

2. Height Requirement and Warnings

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage has no height requirement or official warnings from Disney. This could make it a great option for the whole family – but be sure to check out the Is it Scary section for a few caveats.

3. Ride Vehicles and Restraints

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage has a theater capacity of around 1,500 guests. Much like Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, this attraction takes place entirely outside in a covered (but not air-conditioned) theater. There are some large fans, but I still wouldn’t recommend this show on a particularly hot summer day.

4. How Does Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage Work?

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage works like a standard stage show, utilizing live actors, practical set pieces, and some mild smoke effects. Some of the dialogue, music, (and roars) are piped-in and there is both dancing and fighting choreography.

5. Is Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage Scary?

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage could be scary to some guests. Aside from the intense story elements and villainous characters that you would expect from seeing the movie, it’s actually a pretty tame retelling of the tale. The show skips over large sections of the movie but does include some scary scenes like the Beast’s temper tantrums, the “Kill the Beast” number, and most notably, the castle siege and the Beast’s stabbing.

If you and your family are totally fine with the intense storyline, the only other thing I’d look out for would be the mild smoke effects (nothing too crazy like It’s Tough to be a Bug), and the loud roaring you’ll hear throughout the show. While being out in the audience in an open-air theater certainly helps take the edge off, this attraction still might be worth considering for those especially prone to sensory sensitivity.

6. How High is Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage?

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage does not involve heights. As a standard Disney stage show, you and your seat remain on the ground at all times.

7. How Fast is Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage?

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage does not go fast. Unlike some Disney shows, there are no 4D effects or moving seats, meaning you will remain stationary for the entire duration.

8. Does Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage Have Drops?

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage does not have drops. In fact, there is no movement or thrill ride elements whatsoever on this attraction.

9. Does Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage Cause Motion Sickness?

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage should not cause motion sickness for most riders. With its outdoor theater and lack of any screens, spinning, or 4D effects, there is really nothing in this attraction that could cause nausea.

10. Is Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage Claustrophobic?

Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage should not feel claustrophobic for most riders. Just like Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular with its outdoor theater, this show is one of the easiest to exit if needed. It should be noted, however, that you may have difficulties getting around the people on either side of you if you’re seated in the middle of a row. To remedy this, try finding a seat on the end of a row or in the back of the theater for easy access. In addition, you can always ask a cast member for assistance.

11. Are There Animatronics on Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage?

There are no animatronics on Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage. However, it should be noted that there are many fully-costumed characters that could be unsettling for anyone averse to mascots or other meetable characters in Disney World. They all stay up on stage and don’t come close to anyone in the audience, but they’re worth mentioning all the same.

Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage Queue Walkthrough

The queue entrance is located outside in the Sunset Boulevard section of Hollywood Studios. Once entering the line, you will simply walk up an outdoor ramp towards the stage and find your seat. With such a massive theater, you will most likely get to decide where you would like to sit – especially if you arrive early. Also, with its long metal benches, you may not have to be squished right up next to the party beside you if the show isn’t filled to capacity. Once seated, you’ll just sit back and wait for the show to begin.

Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage Walkthrough

The performance begins with the Prince turning into the Beast after snubbing the old lady at his door. As he exits the stage, disgraced, the curtain rises to reveal Belle struggling to fit into her provincial life. You’ll get a nice rendition of “Belle” before she suddenly finds herself at the castle as the Beast’s captive.

After meeting the castle’s colorful characters, they serenade you with “Be Our Guest” before the Beast storms in, roaring that he is the master of the castle. As his subjects try to console him, Belle uncovers the rose, sending him into another tantrum. Belle, however, fires back that he should learn to control his temper. After this exchange, they launch into “Something There” before the curtain closes, revealing Gaston plotting back at the village.

The townspeople gather as he sings “Kill the Beast” and they storm the castle, “fighting” with the castle characters until the Beast finds Gaston. They duel back and forth until Gaston finally “stabs” him, sending him collapsing on the ground as Belle runs to his side. As he lies dying, Belle whispers “I love you” and he starts to transform back into the Prince.

With the castle restored, the cast comes together to sing “Beauty and the Beast” as the happy couple comes back on stage. The show then comes to an end, they all take a bow, and everyone will begin exiting the theater.

That’s it! Remember, everyone’s riding experience is a little bit different and only you can decide whether to hop on that ride vehicle or not. I just hope this guide helps you be prepared and enjoy every second of your Disney experience!
