Look Out For: intense stunt performances as well as explosions, “gunfire” and other practical effects
Opening on August 25, 1989, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular is an exciting live stunt show featuring everyone’s favorite adventurer (or at least the stunt man who plays him.) But how scary is Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular? Let’s take a look at the stats:
1. Ride Length
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular has a duration of approximately 25 to 30 minutes. While Disney does a great job of keeping their shows right on schedule, the use of live actors, real stunts, and practical events can impact the show’s run time by a couple of minutes.
2. Height Requirement and Warnings
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular has no height requirement or health and safety warnings. However, this doesn’t mean that this show is suitable for everyone in your party. Be sure to read through the What to Expect section below for the specifics.
3. Ride Vehicles and Restraints
The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular uses a standard outdoor theater seating approximately 2,000 people. With its massive stage and show scenes, you can get a pretty good view of the action regardless of where you’re sitting. There is cover from the sun and some fans, but this attraction can still be pretty uncomfortable in the heat of the summer.
4. How Does Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Work?
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular works like any other stage show, seating its guests facing the stage where the performance takes place. This attraction utilizes live actors and stunt performers as well as large-scale practical effects, pyrotechnics, and even entire vehicles on stage.
5. Is Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Scary?
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular could be a bit scary to some people. While not intentionally frightening, the high-charged stunt performances and story elements could feel a bit overwhelming.
If you or anyone in your party is especially sensitive to spooky theming, the first scene in the temple is probably the most creepy – involving some ominous music, “booby traps,” the classic giant boulder, and huge set pieces fashioned like skulls and other “Temple of Doom” props.
The rest of the show is more adrenalin-pumping than scary, but still includes some sinister characters, real explosions, gunfire (fake, of course, but loud), and even some suspenseful chase scenes involving large vehicles with loud revving engines. There are also dangerous-looking falls as well as simulated fistfights and other hand-to-hand combat.
Trigger Warning:
If you or anyone in your party is particularly sensitive to loud “gunfire,” explosions, realistic combat, or war-time settings – this may be an attraction to skip. The whole cast does a great job of taking the edge off with comedy and behind-the-scenes segments, but anyone with combat-related PTSD or sensory sensitivity of any kind could find this attraction very intense.
6. How High is Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular?
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular does not directly involve heights. While the performers on-stage find themselves pretty high off the ground at times, you will remain in your seat, watching from a safe distance.
7. How Fast is Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular?
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular does not go fast. As a traditional stage show, the theater and seats remain stationary for the entire run time. While there are vehicles on-stage that go pretty fast at times, the audience never moves.
8. Does Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Have Drops?
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular does not have drops. While certainly thrilling in its own ways, this attraction does not involve any motion, drops, or other ride elements of any kind.
9. Does Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Cause Motion Sickness?
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular should not cause motion sickness for most people. With its lack of any spinning, large screens, or 4D effects, it does not include many elements that could cause nausea.
10. Is Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Claustrophobic?
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular should not be claustrophobic for most people. With its entirely outdoor theater, this show is one of the easiest to exit, if needed. However, it should be noted that you may have difficulties getting around the people on either side of you if you’re seated in the middle of a row. To remedy this, try finding a seat on the end of a row or in the back of the theater for easy access. In addition, you can always ask a cast member for assistance.
11. Are There Animatronics on Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular?
There are no animatronics on Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. While there are plenty of live actors and interactive set pieces, the only machinery you’ll find in this show are props and vehicles.
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Queue Walkthrough
The queue entrance is located outside near Echo Lake in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With the entire attraction taking place outdoors, the queue line is no different. You will wind through a short line surrounded by lush, jungle landscaping and “adventurer” theming. Because of this show’s high capacity (approximately 2,000 people), you most likely will just have to wait for the next show time. Once they allow guests inside, you will simply find a seat and wait for the show to begin.
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Show Walkthrough
The show begins with a live scene of Indiana Jones in the temple, falling from the ceiling before evading booby traps and other dangers. The segment culminates in the huge boulder stunt, which causes the rest of the “crew” to run out and make sure he’s alright.
Our hero is shown to be just fine and we are introduced to the cast, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the stunts they are performing and the whole set. As the crew talks, a massive scene change takes place, revealing an outdoor market scene. When the cameras “roll” again, you get to see some very cool choreography, chase scenes, stunts, and practical effects as Indie and Marion evade enemies. The scene ends with a truck overturning and exploding, again leaving you wondering if our heroes survived the stunt. They, of course, come running out unharmed and the crew comes back out for another demonstration.
The last scene takes place at a military base and involves Indie and Marion escaping once again – this time from an intimidating mechanic and a running plane. This segment is the biggest and baddest of them all, involving massive explosions and a high-octane finale that’ll leave your adrenalin pumping. With that, the cast comes out one last time and the show comes to an end.
That’s it! Remember, everyone’s riding experience is a little bit different and only you can decide whether to hop on that ride vehicle or not. I just hope this guide helps you be prepared and enjoy every second of your Disney experience!
