So you’re taking on Disney World – the crowds, the heat, the ever growing beast that is Genie+ – but what actually needs to go in your suitcase? For many people, the dreaded Disney packing list can feel that much more convoluted when you’re catering to your anxiety as well.

As an anxious guest myself, I’ve put together the ultimate packing list for Disney World with anxiety so you don’t have to.

You ready? Unzip that duffle bag and let’s get started.

Documents & Basics

packing list

First up on our packing list are the documents and basics. This is the important stuff – the if-I-get-on-this-plane-without-it-my-trip-will-be-ruined category. Of course, Disney (or the local Walmart) has got you covered if you forget the odd toothbrush or razor, but it’ll make your trip go all the more smoothly if you remember to pack all the basics. And we like smooth – especially where anxiety is involved.

Here’s what I recommend for the Documents & Basics Category:

  • Passport and plane tickets if needed
  • Disney tickets/dinner and resort reservations/order numbers – you get the idea. Make sure you have all of the info and emails you need in case Disney needs to assist with a problem.
  • Hotel or VRBO reservation (if staying off-property)
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and other toiletries you may wish to have
  • Park day clothes for every day of your stay – I like to pack comfortable “play clothes” that you don’t mind getting sweaty, don’t cause chaffing, and that will keep you cool and unbothered throughout the day.
  • Comfortable shoes and socks – make sure they’re broken in, don’t cause blisters, and are suitable to walk miles upon miles in.
  • Park bag of your choosing – should be large enough to fit your water bottle and other essentials but small enough to fit in the holding area of any ride

Just in Case

packing list

Now, we all know that being prepared is one of the best ways to help curb anxiety in general – and your Disney vacation is no different! These are the things that might never leave the bottom of your suitcase but just having them available can be a game changer. Whether these items save the day in a crisis or just give you peace of mind, they are important additions to any Disney World packing list.

Here’s what I recommend for the Just in Case category:

  • Tylenol, band-aids, and other first aid items. While you can always make a visit to one of Disney’s First Aid Centers throughout the parks, it’ll save you a lot of time, energy, and stress to have these things on hand.
  • Two extra sets of park day clothes in case you get soaked (by rain or ride)
  • Extra socks – for the same reason
  • Lightweight poncho or rain jacket. I found this one to be light and comfortable in the heat.
  • Extra layers or a sweatshirt – since restaurants and resorts can be a bit chilly
  • Portable power bank and chargers for phones and electronics. (I used this one from Amazon.)
  • AirPods or other earphones – especially for anxiety or if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed in the parks

Snacks & Sustenance

packing list

Next up on our packing list are snacks and sustenance. One of the most important parts of managing your anxiety is just giving your body what it needs to function the best that it can. While this may sound like a no-brainer, it’s actually quite a challenge to fuel yourself properly when you’re walking miles upon miles in the Florida sun – not to mention that anxiety is often in the mix!

Whether you’re bringing your own lunch or feasting on Disney snacks all day, there’s no denying that eating right is crucial to any park day. Not only does sipping and snacking help keep you going strong throughout the day, but stimulating your senses is a key part of “grounding” yourself when experiencing anxiety.

Here’s what I recommend for the Snacks & Sustenance category:

BRING:

  • Plenty of water
  • Protein bars
  • Sandwiches
  • Electrolyte drinks
  • Other high protein snacks

AVOID

  • Caffeine – almost always agitates anxiety
  • High-sugar foods like PB&Js, desserts, etc. – no one has time for a sugar crash in the middle of Magic Kingdom, believe me.

Keeping Cool & Comfortable

Packing List

Perhaps more important than fueling your body is keeping yourself cool, comfortable, and SAFE in the intense Florida heat. It’s no secret that Orlando sees soaring temperatures throughout the year, and adding these items to your packing list can help you be prepared for the insane levels of heat you’ll experience on your Disney Vacation. Not only do they keep you safe and comfortable, but they can help exponentially when dealing with anxiety in the midst of very uncomfortable temperatures.

Here’s what I recommend for the Keeping Cool & Comfortable category:

  • Water bottle – preferably one that is large, insulated, and refillable that can fit in your park bag. I use this one and absolutely love it.
  • Cooling and moisture-wicking towels (we used Frogg Toggs and they were amazing)
  • Handheld fans and/or misters. We bought this one and it really came in handy in the July heat.
  • Lightweight hats or other wearable protection from the sun
  • Sunscreen
